How to upgrade your bathroom on a budget

Updated: Mar 10, 2022

Reviving a tired bathroom does not always require a total overhaul. Updated fixtures, refreshed cabinets, smart storage solutions, and decorative accents can add character and style to any bathroom. Best of all, you do not have to break your budget to realize the bathroom of your dreams!

1. Remove Clutter

Removing the clutter from the counter top and other areas of the room is the easiest, and most frugal, way to give your bathroom an uplift! Place items in storage containers under the sink. Purchase drawer organizers.  Add some freestanding or wall-hung shelves to further organize you toiletries or display tasteful accents. Using old wooden crates as smart holders for extra toilet paper and rolled bath towers will add a touch of character to your bathroom.

2. Update Fixtures

A very budget friendly and easy way to update your bathroom is simply to replace the fixtures. Modern faucets and a new shower head will enhance the look and feel of your bathroom, giving it a very appealing visual lift.

3. Replace Lighting

With the myriad of modern and contemporary bathroom lighting styles that are available, you can easily find some that will fit your budget and theme. Avoid yellow bulbs and cold or fluorescent lighting. Natural or simulated natural light in bathrooms is the best option.

4. Add Accents

Simple details make all the difference. Create a harmonious colour palette by matching your cabinet doors to your feature tiles and decorative accents. Displaying your much loved accessories on your new budget friendly shelving will transform the bathroom into your own personal oasis.

5. Restore

Renovating does not have to mean brand new. If you have a classic claw foot tub that is starting to show its age, simply restoring it can be less expensive than replacing it with a new tub. In the end you will have a one-of-a-kind element that will give your bathroom a refined look.

6. Renovate Tile

Replacing the entire bathroom tile floor is not always necessary. Create a pattern by replacing some tiles with accent tiles. An even simpler solution may be to repair or replace the grout. Sometimes fixing the grout is all that is necessary to improve the appearance of your bathroom floor.

7. Upcycle

What is old is new - and free! Why buy a new vanity when you can repurpose an existing piece of furniture as a vanity. An old chest of drawers or a vintage table can easily be turned it into a stylish vanity for your bathroom. Remember size is the most important factor to consider when choosing a piece to epicycle. Make certain the dimensions will work for the space and has ample room for plumbing.

8. Retire The Shower Curtain

Is your shower curtain torn and covered in mildew? Replacing it can add some style to your décor. Shower curtains can consume a large visual area of the bathroom so take good care when selecting your utility as it can make or break the final design.

9. Frame The Mirror

Mirrors make a big difference in any room. They add visual space. In the bathroom, mirrors need to be highly functional but that is not synonymous with drab. Simply adding a nice wooden frame around your mirror will give it a new, unique, look and style.
